A Dundee 12-year-old’s blurb for a ghost story is to be turned into a full-length book.

Morgan Academy’s Becky Wright was among 1,500 pupils to enter a competition organised by the city council to mark National Year of Reading. Her entry will be turned into a full-length novel by author Catherine MacPhail, who ran workshops with pupils, and it will be published by Edinburgh-based Barrington Stoke in 2009.

Becky’s blurb read: “The school was dark. Empty. Phoebe and her five best friends sat alone in their maths classroom getting ready for a ghostly game of hide and seek. One after another, they start to go missing.

“Will they be able to find their friends in time to face the danger that hovers around the corner?”

The judges said: “You just know the feel and shape of the book from this blurb - it leaps off the page, vivid as a teen horror movie, and as compelling.”
