English - In the spotlight - Read to Feed

TES partner Send a Cow’s Read to Feed scheme hopes to inspire every young learner to turn the pages. The scheme is a sponsored read to celebrate Children’s Book Week (1-7 October). Send a Cow provides a suggested reading list and sponsor forms on their website, www.sendacow.org.ukreadtofeed

How does it work?

Decide how long you want to run the sponsored read, then pick a reading list and give out sponsorship forms. Reward pupils with stickers for every book they read and once they have finished they can collect money from relatives and friends. The money raised will help to buy farm animals, trees and training in natural farming methods for communities in Africa.

“It’s a great way to get pupils reading more, while raising money to help poor families in Africa,” says John Cleverley, education manager at Send a Cow. “It also teaches them in a practical way that they have the power to bring about change.”
