Teachers of less-taught languages in particular will welcome the The Learning Zone’s new three-week language season, which starts on March 26.

The BBC2 season will include 32 hours of programming for language learners at all levels, covering nine different tongues, including Japanese and Scottish Gaelic.

The programmes include a return of the Get By series aimed at travellers, which will tackle French, German, Spanish and Italian. On March 28, young Spanish learners can enjoy Isobel, a drama series for 14 to 16-year-olds, and Ici Paris will be shown for 13-year-olds.

Primary teachers looking for a crash course in French can tune into The French Experience on March 29 and 31. There are also beginner’s programmes for Italian and Greek on April 1, and for Spanish and Portuguese the next day.

Would-be Scottish-Gaelic speakers can tune into Speaking Our Language on April 4.

All the programmes start at 2am, for details contact the BBC Education Information Line on 0181 746 1111 or visit the BBC Education website on http:www.bbcco.uk education
