Nursery and P1 pupils across Scotland will be able to welcome back Scotland’s puffins if they tune in to a special Glow Meet session next week.

The event will take place on March 18, live from the Scottish Seabird Centre, with nurseries and primaries watching the puffins’ return to different islands in the Firth of Forth by logging onto the schools intranet network Glow. Pupils will learn how puffins migrate in the winter to warmer climes and return to islands in the Firth of Forth every March. In a fully interactive storytelling session, “Percy the Puffin’s Homecoming Adventure” will come alive, as the children herald the return of the puffins, participating through actions and rhymes.

They will learn about Percy’s lifecycle, how he meets his mate, digs a burrow for a nest and feeds his family. The children also discover about some of the threats facing seabirds and their environment.

The event is aimed at developing literacy, numeracy and expressive arts skills in the early years. The children will carry out their own activities in their establishment, taking part in songs and riddles, and be able to access the centre’s webcams and view the birds and sealife live from the Bass Rock and the surrounding area.

This will be the first in a new series of live events from the Scottish Seabird Centre, with further Glow Meets planned for the return of the dolphins to the Firth of Forth in May and seals in October.
