Schools are being invited to submit entries for this year’s Scotland’s Finest Wood (SFW) awards.

The schools award is designed to encourage and reward nursery, primary, secondary or special schools which increase young people’s understanding and appreciation of the environmental, social and economic potential of trees, woodlands and forest. Entries can be practical or desk projects. For instance:

- a programme of learning in a woodland or forest environment, such as a forest school;

- a classroom-based study of woods and forests or the forest industry;

- practical tree planting or woodland improvement projects in school grounds or the local community.

In addition to the schools award and the community woodlands award, given to Scotland’s best community or urban woodland project, SFW has this year established a special silver jubilee prize to celebrate its 25th year. Previous award-winners will compete to become the champion of champions.
