Cake-stalls, tombolas - school fundraising has never been easy. But the ladies of one parent-teacher association in rural Spain have been saddled with an pound;8,000 debt after their erotic calendar fundraiser failed to meet expectations.
Only festive tinsel and the odd cream cake preserved the modesty of the seven mums of Serradilla del Arroyo, who posed for the photos to raise money for their one-classroom school.
But lack of experience in publishing meant they missed the Christmas rush and were left with 5,000 unsold copies. “The sad part for us is figuring out what to do with them, because it is not something you can recycle,” said Rosa Garin, 36, who was pictured wearing only a bright red umbrella.
Itziar Zamarreno, a 40-year-old town councillor who appears as Miss October, with only a fox pelt and a shotgun, said the under-funding of rural schools inspired their fundraising strategy.
But the calendar distributor filed a complaint about them not paying their bills, sparking a bout of publicity which the valiant mums hope will boost sales.
