RESIGNATION may be the key to credibility with teachers. At the end of the first day of voting, 34 per cent of voters in the TES poll to find the education heroes and villains of the year had chosen former education secretary Estelle Morris as their hero. She was significantly ahead of her closest contender, London schools commissioner Tim Brighouse. Her replacement, Charles Clarke, has yet to score. Meanwhile, Tony Blair may have deprived Chris Woodhead of his position as the man teachers love to hate. The PM topped the villains’ league, with 40 per cent of the vote: well ahead of the former chief inspector, who scored 31 per cent. Voting closes on December 17.
