Estyn head for HMIE

Bill Maxwell left his job this week as head of Estyn, the Welsh inspectorate, to the sound of plaudits; he takes over HMIE next Monday. Despite leaving behind a record of being tough on failing schools and poorly-performing local authorities, TES Cymru reports that the teaching unions warmed to his “open and honest style and . they are sad to see him go”.
