The European Convention on Human Rights

Among all the partisan clamour about Europe, the question of human rights is usually obscured. A teaching pack, The European Convention on Human Rights, offers enlightenment for pupils aged 14-18. There are five information sheets, covering such topics as the European Court, the operation of the Social Charter, relevant websites and such uncontroversial matters as the right to freedom from torture. Ten more actvity sheets provide opportunities for students to relate rights issues to their experiences in school, to explore the dreams and realities of working life and to prepare for thoughtful and active 21st-century citizenship.

The European Convention on Human Rights pack can be ordered from the Council of Europe, F-67075 Strasbourg. Cedex email: point_i@coe.int.
