LEARNING FOR THE 21ST CENTURY

Interactive workshop on student-centred learning in Australia at the Institute of Education, Cambridge, led by Dr Donna Brandes, director of Fremantle Education Centre, Western Australia. It will include a video of Australian teachers and students using SCL; suggestions on how to implement it; and a new educational game which is sweeping Western Australia. Fee: Pounds 45. BASIC SKILLS IN SCHOOLS - DEVELOPING NEW INITIATIVES

Heads from secondary schools in England and Wales are invited to join a Basic Skills Agency consultation exercise to consider how to help to improve the performance of pupils who struggle with reading, writing and basic maths. Morning meetings will be held at the Park Hotel, Cardiff, and the CBI Conference Centre, Centrepoint, London W1, and there will be eight regional meetings from September.
