A day for teachers, parents and others who work with children and young people to share their experiences and explore creative alternatives to countering violence. THE GOGMAGOGS

Family show put on by seven performer-musicians at the Purcell Room, South Bank, London SE1, 2pm, as part of the British Festival of Visual Theatre. FORKBEARD FANTASY EXPLODE!!!

Forkbeard Fantasy Theatre Company is running daytime workshops for special needs students and evening workshops for adults about Bonfire Night at The Castle, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. DAYS OF RALLIES AND ROSES

More than 40 years’ involvement in the student, labour and trades union movements are documented in this free photographic exhibition at the TUC Centre, 23-28 Great Russell Street, London WC1, presented by Fred Jarvis, former general secretary, National Union of Teachers. It includes images of life in Russia and Poland in the 50s, the fall of the Berlin Wall, marches and rallies during 18 years of Conservative rule and the 1997 general election. DEATH AND SURVIVAL IN 20TH CENTURY MEXICAN ART

Professor Oriana Baddeley is giving this free London Institute lecture at the Cochrane Theatre, Southampton Row, WC1, 7pm. Almost coinciding with Mexico’s famous Days of the Dead, it will trace the development of the rhetoric of death within Mexico’s cultural and political debates. Tickets: 0171 242 7040.

The University of Hertfordshire Observatory, Hatfield, is open to the public this evening. Check out their sophisticated astronomy equipment and (weather permitting) see the Moon, planets, stars and distant galaxies.
