WILD TIGERS

This exhibition at Glasgow’s Burrell Collection marks the Chinese Year of the Tiger and aims to help save the animal from extinction. For all age groups, it includes contemporary art work, wildlife and natural history specimens, exciting film and hands-on displays. Details: 0141 287 274748.

BIRMINGHAM READERS AND WRITERS FESTIVAL

Ian McEwan, Benjamin Zephaniah, Roy Hattersley, Edwina Currie and Linton Kwesi Johnson are just a few of the literary names appearing in this year’s festival, which includes comedy, performance poetry and drama.

BRIGHTON JEWISH FILM FESTIVAL

The first festival is being hosted by the Phoenix Cinema, 52 High Road, London N2, the second at a number of Brighton venues. The Phoenix has organised educational workshops with the Spiro Institute, November 2-5, 1-4pm, for key stage 2 and GCSE students on such topics as: Blacks and Jews; understanding the Holocaust; and the ghetto experience. SPEAKING UP FOR FURTHER EDUCATION

Public lecture series at the new hospital site of the Greenwich University School for Post-Compulsory Education and Training, London SE10, 6.30-8pm. LONDON LANGUAGE SHOW

Teachers visiting the Novotel Exhibition Centre, Hammersmith, London W8, can discover the latest methods of learning languages from French, German and Spanish to Urdu and Chinese. Over 100 exhibitors are showcasing the latest equipment and a programme of seminars, workshops and training sessions has been organised with the Association of Language Learning, the Department for Trade and Industry and the Language National Training Organisation. THE DEAD SEA SCROLLS

Dr Weston Fields, executive director of the Dead Sea Scrolls Trust, Israel, will discuss the origin, content and significance of these 800 documents, which include the oldest copies of the Hebrew Bible, at the Institut Francais cinema, 17 Queensbury Place, London SW7, 7pm.
