SCIENCE LECTURES

Chief scientific adviser and head of the Office of Science and Technology, Sir Robert May, will discuss whether we are getting better at exploiting our scientific and innovative capability in the first of three lectures atthe Royal Society of Arts, 8 John Adam Street London WC2, 6pm. HALF-TERM HEAVEN

Ten-piece jazz band The hKippers led by Paul Bradley (Nigel in Eastenders), kick off a special children’s programme at the South Bank, London SEl.

Bring brown paper bags and join in the musical mayhem. For children aged six upwards, Naomi Adler will read her tale Jumping Mouse, passed on to her by Sioux medicine man, Seven Arrows, and follow it with mask-making, chanting, instrument-playing and Native American dancing. Finally, Faustin Charles will use rhymes and music to do some “Caribbean Counting” with children under five.
