As ponds and ditches are teeming with life at this time of year, pupils can learn much about the creatures inhabiting them. The latest Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust challenge, the Great Pond Safari, invites key stage 2 groups from schools across Britain to survey their local watery ecosystems to see if they are wildlife havens or deserts, pristine or polluted. The trust has devised a six-week programme involving one visit to their local WWT centre and related activities in and around school.
