Art of a good time

Free drop-in sessions for 12- to 24-year-olds are continuing throughout the summer at Dundee Contemporary Arts. Arts Action on Thursdays at 6-8pm offers young people the chance to take part in activities or check out the films, exhibitions and other events at DCA and "discuss and experiment with ideas, communication and materials in a safe and friendly environment," says Richie Cumming, the manager.

Professional artists lead the activities, which include producing work for the Arts Action hand-printed magazine, cartoon design and film making.

Gateway to fun

Plenty of free fun for children aged 8 and over is on offer at the National Park Gateway Centre on Loch Lomond Shores in Balloch.

An exhibition on the life of Scotsman John Muir, known as the father of American national parks, is complemented by Become a Park Ranger for a Day sessions. On Thursday afternoons until mid-August there are craft sessions using recycled manufactured and natural materials. On Tuesdays, there are sessions on the importance of water, why it should be conserved and how to stay safe when on or near it.
