Improvements in the manufacture of heavy guns, new fortifications and surveying, afforded Renaissance mathematicians new opportunities to apply their skills. This exhibition at the History of Science Museum, Broad Street, Oxford, reveals how they sought to relate range to angle of fire, applied novel surveying techniques to range-finding, and devised instruments to introduce these new methods to the battlefield.
