FEBRUARY-JUNE WORD FEAST National celebration of literature organised by the charity, Feed the Minds, to raise money for literacy projects in Africa and Asia. Pupils and students are invited to share their favourite pieces of writing at events preferably organised within the next two months. Schools raising money are eligible for associate membership of Feed the Minds and 50 per cent off certain religious education textbooks. FEBRUARY STILL MOVING AFTER 100 YEARS To celebrate the centenary of cinema and to complement an exhibition opening at the Watershed Media Centre, Bristol, the WMC is screening a series of classic British films. A local expert will give a 20-minute introduction to each film. They include: Andrew Spicer, University of the West of England,. on Great Expectations, February 13, 8.20 pm, and Ian Aitken, UWE, on Henry V, February 18, 3.05 pm. FEBRUARY 20 THE TERROR OF CHILDHOOD Children’s mental health charity, Young Minds, is hosting a debate between Adam Phillips, child psychotherapist and author, and Suzanne Moore, writer and Guardian columnist, chaired by Libby Purves, broadcaster and journalist. FEBRUARY 28-MARCH 9 A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM Four sets of lovers experience love in all its forms -hallucinatory obsession, jealousy, sexual infatuation and genuine romance - in Shakespeare’s popular comedy performed by students at the Welsh College of Music and Drama, Castle Grounds, Cathays Park, Cardiff. MARCH TOWARDS THE MILLENNIUM As part of the decade-long festival, Towards the Millennium, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra is staging 11 concerts of 1950s music conducted by Sir Simon Rattle in the Symphony Hall, Birmingham, the Royal Festival Hall, London SE1, St David’s Hall, Cardiff, and in Vienna.
