UNTIL APRIL 29 DR MABUSE AND FRIENDS: GERMAN CRIME FILMS 1914-1945

Film season at the Goethe- Institut London, 50 Princes Gate, Exhibition Road, London SW7. German filmmakers were influenced by French and Anglo-American models, but were later to leave their mark on the American “film noir”. Famous emigres Fritz Lang, Robert Siodmak and Billy Wilder will all be featured plus Weimar-period thrillers, a sample of the popular detective series of the 1910s and some crime melodramas of the Third Reich including a compelling version of the Dr Crippen story. MARCH 15-23 NATIONAL WEEK FOR SCIENCE, ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY

In talks and workshops visitors to the Museum of London, London EC2, can find out about the Great Exhibition Clock and its ten dials, see some technical wonders of the Victorian age, join a light trail and find out about museum conservation. MARCH 17 AND APRIL 22 LOLLIPOP PROMS

Two free concerts to introduce primary pupils to the joys of listening to live musical performances have been organised by Music for Youth at the Symphony Hall, Birmingham (with support from the National Union of Teachers) and St Andrew’s Hall, Norwich (with support from Anglian Water). OPENING MARCH 17 THE LIVING SEA

With this latest film at the giant IMAX cinema at the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television, Bradford, visitors will find themselves swimming alongside lifesize humpback whales, surfing with Hawaii’s champion curl-riders, and going down 3,000 feet to the mysterious ocean depths where no person has yet dived. MARCH 20-21 ANNE FRANK’S DIARY

This dramatisation of Anne Frank’s writings at Chiswick Community School, Burlington Lane, London W4, 7.30pm, tells the moving story of how she and her family hid from the Nazis for two years with another Jewish family and a dentist in two claustrophic rooms. APRIL 7-11 AND JUNE 30-JULY 4 BP BEHIND THE SCENES WEEK

An extensive programme of talks, demonstrations and practical workshops examining the many aspects of Royal Opera and Royal Ballet productions. The first is residential (with accommodation in London University’s halls of residence) and aimed at 18 to 21-year-olds, fee Pounds 130; the second is non-residential and aimed at 16 to 18-year-olds, fee Pounds 50. APRIL 11-13 AWT REPAIRS WEEKEND

A practical, hands-on introduction to instrument repair and regulation organised by the Association of Woodwind Teachers in Cambridge. Teachers of woodwind welcome. APRIL 14 PROFESSIONAL HEALTH TRAINING

Two courses organised by Association of Workers for Children with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties at Lindsworth Centre, Monyhull Hall Road, Kings Norton, Birmingham.
