UNTIL SEPTEMBER 12 WORKING IN LONDON

London Institute exhibition at 65 Davies Street, W1, of the work of Jaroslav Bradac and Bob Britten, who came to London in 1969 from Prague and Gloucestershire respectively. The show explores how London has influenced their paintings. Free admission. Details: Rachel Hudson, 0171 514 6129.

JULY 16-18 SUMMER YOUTH MUSIC- AND MASK-MAKING

Children aged 11 upwards are invited to Perth Theatre Studio for music-making or Perth Museum and Art Gallery for mask-making, 10am-4pm. The starting point will be the music, art and culture of the Hopi North American Indians. Pre-booking essential through Community Arts, 01738 632488.

JULY 18-AUGUST 31 BECOME A WAR REPORTER

As part of the “ITN War Reporter” display at the Imperial War Museum, Lambeth Road, London SE1, children can read a news item at a recreation of the famous News at Ten desk and watch their performance on a television screen. Or they can undertake a mission as a war reporter using activity sheets and enter a competition to write a news story about an event covered in the exhibition. The prize is the chance to meet newscasters and reporters on a behind-the-scenes tour of ITN. The exhibition explores the history of news-gathering from film cans to today’s flak jackets and satellite link-ups. Details: Christopher Dowling, 0171 416 5310.

JULY 19-27 NATIONAL GALLERY WEEK

Engage, the national association for gallery education, is co-ordinating events in art galleries nationwide. Another Engage initiative is “Opt for Art”, which provides 43 travel grants to Welsh secondary schools to help fund visits to galleries, and supports collaborative projects between schools and artists to help Year 9 pupils make an informed choice about opting for GCSE art. JULY 19-27 SUMMER EXHIBITION: GALLERY WEEK

All children under eight visiting the Royal Academy, Piccadilly, London W1, will be given a free colouring pad and crayons, and each day from 11.30am a guide will lead eight to 12-year-olds on a lively 45-minute journey through the galleries. The Summer Exhibition remains open until 8.30pm every Sunday evening throughout July and there will be live music in the courtyard. Details: 0171 300 5615.

NOVEMBER 8-9 WANDSWORTH CHILDREN’S MUSIC FESTIVAL

Children aged up to 16, including those with special needs, are invited to participate in this festival at Southfields Community College, 333 Merton Road, London SW18. It will comprise standard instrumental categories for soloists, duets and ensembles; composition; solo percussion; plus choir and family music categories.
