Social trends of the past 120 years from Toulouse-Lautrec to Saatchi amp; Saatchi are captured in this display at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London SW7, culled from its collection of more than 10,000 originals. Divided into three sections - Pleasure and Leisure; Protest and Propaganda; and Commerce and Communication - it includes works by Jules Cheret (the “founding father” of the poster), Jean Cocteau, David Hockney, Roy Lichtenstein, Alphonse Mucha and Aubrey Beardsley. Related events include a free drop-in workshop, “Going graphic”, where visitors can take photos in the museum with a digital image camera and, using a computer, make their own poster. Porsche may be best known for sports and racing cars but his contribution to vehicle design ranges from fire engines to amphibious cars and airship engines.
