* Earthwatch’s annual Environmental Awards provide educators with fully funded placements on its scientific field research projects. Awards typically offer a project placement lasting between three and 14 days during the school holidays. No experience is required. For more information contact: 01865 318838.

* Copies of Earthwatch’s teacher resource pack are available free of charge from awards@earthwatch.org.uk. Produced by secondary level teachers who took part in three Earthwatch projects, the packs contain lesson plans for science and geography.

* Earthwatch has launched its 2006 Earthwatch Student Awards. The winner will receive pound;1,000 to put towards an Earthwatch research expedition of their choice, with prizes of pound;750 and pound;500 for the runners-up. Successful applicants could find themselves monitoring crocodiles in the swamps of the Okavango Delta, tracking elephants in Sri Lanka’s national parks, or researching the impacts of climate change in Iceland or Alaska. Students of any discipline over the age of 16 can enter.

* Born Free runs an Education Outreach project taking interactive “wild workshops” nationwide to both primary and secondary schools.
