Exclusion disorder

Waltham Forest council has been ordered to pay pound;3,000 in compensation after leaving a teenage boy with special needs without a school for 18 months.

The 17-year-old, who suffers from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and Asperger syndrome, was excluded from his secondary school. The council then sent a letter to his mother claiming the disruption was her fault.

Angela Feeney, from Chingford, was shocked to receive the letter. "It frightens me what is happening to other children in this position," she said.
