Expedition leader admits group ill-equipped for fatal trek

AN army officer who led a trekking expedition in Vietnam in which a 17-year-old schoolgirl died, has admitted the group were ill-equipped for such a challenging climb. Amy Ransom, a pupil at Wycombe high school, died after plunging over a ravine in Northern Vietnam earlier this year. An inquest in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, heard how Captain Richard Lloyd told the party of eight schoolgirls to turn back because of poor weather, just before Amy slipped. A verdict of accidental death was recorded.
