Expressive arts - Growth spurts

The Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA) is running a series of outreach projects in Glasgow's Drumchapel area to educate and stimulate interest among young people in growing their own vegetables and plants.

CCA has been working with schools and community groups to create gardens on their premises, teaching them how to prepare the land, plant seeds and maintain the area.

Pilot projects have been running from April to July at schools including Drummore and Camstradden primaries, each focusing on a different aspect of gardening and the environment. As well as school and nursery projects, the centre is arranging monthly "guerrilla gardening" events encouraging the community to improve their environment. This is part of a wider programme of participative activity being run by the centre called "This Land is your Land", exploring issues of health and environment through participation in contemporary art.
