Fair play to humble partners

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't suggest universities are over-rated. Indeed, some people need those extra few years in education.

Why, though, does FE have such a low profile? Could it be that, while colleges are busy solving all the world's problems, from the skills crisis to schools' inability to teach 14 to 16-year-olds, universities are getting all the credit in the world of post-compulsory education?

You would think so if you heard about the University of Kent coming top in a national student satisfaction survey.

Very impressive, except that art and design, one of the subjects that contributed to its high score, isn't really down to the university. Like so much that universities take credit for, the work is farmed out to FE - in this case, humble South Kent College.

Fair play to the university, though, for crediting its FE partners on its website.
