The sectarian Midlothian madness (TES, November 7) doesn’t surprise me a bit.
When my father went to school in Scotland in the 1920s, he had to pass a Catholic school on the way to his Protestant one.
He was told by his father to pass the Catholic school on the opposite side of the road, presumably in case he should “catch” some form of Popery. Plus ca change it seems.
Nothing will rid us of this sectarianism until we remove so-called faith schools from our education system completely.
If parents want their children to have medieval myths and legends conveyed to them as facts, they should do it at home and in church.
