Farsighted Ken looks to the Fens

You’ve go to hand it to Ken Livingstone. Not only has he returned as London’s most controversial politician, he’s even got designs on one of his old GLC responsibilities - education. Well, the post-16 bit anyway.

With his London Development Agency taking an interest in colleges, some fear it wants to replace the Learning and Skills Council as the controller of post-16 funding in the capital.

But do his ambitions stop there? A look at the LDA’s website shows the homepage carries a picture, not of central London but looking east over the outer reaches of London into the far distance, though the smog towards a place called England.

Does he intend to expand his territory? Or were his web page designers daydreaming about a better life, away from Ken’s congestion charging utopia, in sleepy East Anglia?
