THE Government claims its Fast Track scheme for bright young teachers is on schedule despite a delay in appointing a contractor to run it. Ministers have still not decided which company should be responsible for devising and operating a selection procedure for teachers and final-year undergraduates. Yet the prospectus about Fast Track says contracts should have been signed by February 28.
Obervers have warned that the schedule for developing a selection procedure by September, to begin the tricky task of identifying excellent teachers among graduates with no teaching experience, was already tight. A DFEE spokesman said: “We have shortlisted a group of contractors, whom we will be interviewing over the next few days. We will identify a front-runner by the end of next week.
