Fat profits

Resistance is growing against the drive to make children eat more healthily at school.

First parents were caught slipping pies and burgers through a school's gate to protect pupils from the horrors of salad. Now, as Ofcom mulls over its recommendations for junk food advertising, some children are taking to marketing fatty foods themselves.

A mole at a school in south London reported to The TES that a thriving underground economy in doughnuts has sprung up in response to the Jamie Oliver-ification of school dinners.

Children are smuggling dozens of the jam and sugar-coated fatbombs under their coats for sale in the playground at 50p a time. Presumably, the extra bulk does not make them stand out among their chubby classmates.
