Truancy rates in Welsh schools have fallen for the first time in five years, new figures show. Overall, 1.6 per cent of half-day school sessions were missed because of unauthorised pupil absence, slightly down on the 1.7 per cent last year and a return to 20001 levels. Truancy rates in the principality have not gone down since 19978, when they fell from 1.6 to 1.5 per cent.
