Managers at one college, keen to remove a particular member of staff, took to dropping in on his classes after he had left and quizzing students about his teaching performance.

Other staff, insecure about their own jobs, were also persuaded to comment on their colleague’s work. Each detail was added to a dossier of evidence to be used against the lecturer, who eventually succumbed to pressure and took long-term sick leave.
