The Scottish Government says it is funding an estimated 10 per cent increase in the number of students entering higher education, as a result of rising applications during the financial downturn. Education Secretary Fiona Hyslop, in response to a parliamentary question, said she was making pound;8.6 million available to meet costs for student support and tuition fees of about 3,000 extra students.
