From entry-level models such as the PSR K starting at less then pound;300 to the PSR1500 workstation at pound;1,000, the new models bristle with technical innovation. All are equipped with Yamaha Education Suite software that teaches note reading and chord and rhythm recognition. Large LCDs support music score and lyric displays and SmartMedia drives enable songs to be downloaded and stored from the internet.
Yamaha says the digital samples used are more realistic than ever before and incorporate sounds - string and pick effects, decay, reverb - you would expect to hear from acoustic instruments. USB connectivity is replacing MIDI, but the exciting news is that some models have direct connection to the internet and can access Yamaha's MusicSoft website and its online song library.
