Youth football clubs have joined the simmering row between schools’ football and Scottish Premier League clubs. The 12 Premier clubs have banned their signed players from playing in schools’ representative footballl, a move that some believe will seriously disrupt the schools game. Now, Edinburgh’s Tynecastle youth football club has moved to ban Premier club scouts from their matches and other clubs seem set to follow suit.

Meanwhile, the death of Richard Thomson, president of the Scottish Schools’ Football Association from 1994-96, has been announced. Mr Thomson, who was still an active member of the SSFA committee, had been ill for several months.
