The Bank of Scotland has increased its support of the Scottish Schools'
Football Association's tournaments this season. A plate competition is to be introduced at under-13 level to give teams which are knocked out of the shield competition early the chance to play on for a national trophy.
Entry numbers for this season's competitions are up on last year, the SSFA says.
Scotland's most famous schools' football team has been honoured with a dinner in Glasgow. A "Wembley heroes" night was held to toast the Scottish schoolboys' team that beat England 5-4 in front of 78,000 fans in 1980.
England's Paul Rideout, who went on to play for Rangers, scored a hat-trick but it was eclipsed by Scotland's victory in which Paul McStay, later of Celtic, starred.
