A poster campaign showing how geography can work in A Curriculum for Excellence has been launched.

Colin Tucker, president of the Scottish Association of Geography Teachers, told delegates at Dundee University recently that geography was ideally placed to deliver the new curriculum's four capacities for successful learners: confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors. "Geography has much influence on our daily lives - famine, global warming, transport, urban growth, migration and natural disasters,"

Mr Tucker said. "All these and others are things that young people need not only to know about but to be able to form reasoned opinions on. All this is geography."
