Cook a food with the phonic sound you are learning - for example, for "ch" bake a cheesecake.
Make your own dough with flour and food colouring.
Laminate cards with pictures and names of objects, and let children "treasure hunt" around the classroom or outdoors area.
Befriend local shop staff and ask them to keep old milk crates, cardboard boxes or guttering which would otherwise be thrown away.
Make sure you have plenty of sand and water on standby for cheap outdoor play.
Ask parents to bring in old bottles, or anything that would end up in the recycling bin.
Create a music area outdoors, using objects such as old woks, pots and wooden spoons.
Ask to keep any locally felled trees. The logs can be endlessly used as furniture, for science or for challenges, such as getting the heavy log to the other side of the garden.
