THE PROBLEM of “accidentally destroyed” A-level work (TES, May 14) is not confined to art.

Following a surprising A-level French result we contacted the Associated Examining Board and requested a re-mark of the oral component. We were informed that the candidate’s tape recording had “become irreparably damaged and the senior examiner has not been able to listen to the recording”. One cannot help but think that this is a very convenient way of destroying vital evidence.

We, like Silcoates school, have now switched boards.
