The Government has pledged more than Pounds 1 million to a scheme aimed at increasing educational contacts between young people in the UK and France.
The scheme - Dialogue 2000 - announced last week by the Prime Minister and President Chirac, will enable some 200 schools and colleges on both sides of the Channel to develop partnership links over the next four years. Groups of pupils and their teachers will spend several months in their partner schools improving language skills and working together on joint curriculum projects.
Schools in the UK will be invited to bid for funding from this autumn.
