The recently-established Birkbeck Literacy Assessment Centre claims to be able to give in-depth analysis of children’s reading and spelling difficulties by employing new assessment methods.

Founders of the centre, Dr Estelle Lewin and Dr Morag Stuart, carry out a variety of well-controlled tests to identify specific problems and then design a personalised and focused course of remedial training.

A seminar programme has been organised for teachers and special needs professionals, kicking off on November 21 with a free introduction to the methods for inspectors and special needs advisers.

For more details contact Dr Estelle Doctor, BLAC, Psychology Department, Birkbeck College, University of London, Malet Street, London WC1E 7HX. Tel: 0171 631 6535.
