Louise Hutchinson is a long-term supply teacher at Ysgol Pendorlan in Colwyn Bay, Conwy, who trained at Bangor University.

She was so impressive as a student teacher that - in a crisis last September - headteacher Michael Mulvaney invited her to join the school, covering for a teacher struck by ill health.

A parent from her Year 5 class, Janet Crowther, mother of Chelsea, 10, says: “Louise Hutchinson has a wonderful gift of being able to speak to each child as an individual and bring out the best in them. They, in turn, believe in their own talents.

Talking to other parents, Mrs Crowther knows Ms Hutchinson has put smiles on the faces of many pupils, and delights them with her “young and fresh approach”.

Mr Mulvaney says this is a new teacher with the makings of “somebody special - and that’s what this profession is all about”.
