Diana Johnson today celebrates 31 years of continuous service at Pelham first school in Wimbledon, south London Mrs Johnson has two jobs at this 260-strong school for children aged three to eight. She’s the senior midday supervisor, and the general office helper. Last year, she celebrated her 65th birthday but refused to retire and has cheerfully carried on working.

Katharine Davies, Pelham’s headteacher, who nominated Mrs Johnson for this week’s flowers, champagne and chocolates, says Mrs Johnson is a treasure who helps create a friedly atmosphere and shows tremendous loyalty to the school. She is a “font of all knowledge” about the neighbourhood, and is well known to all the children and their parents - some of whom were once pupils themselves. “It would be impossible to list all that she does for us.”
