Hazel Procter is the bursar’s assistant at Isleworth and Syon school for boys in the London borough of Hounslow Hazel has worked in the school office for several years and is described as “a straight-talking northerner who keeps us all on our toes”, by head of history Mariella Wilson, who nominated her for our flowers, champagne and chocolates. Hazel gets high praise for “never adding to teacher stress or workload - rare in school these days - she always manages to sort things out”. For instance, she tracks down mislaid inspection copies of textbooks and gets the best possible deal for teachers from the publishers.

As the parent of a boy in Year 11, Hazel is also active in the parent teacher association at this 1,000-pupil comprehensive and runs the school shop at lunchtimes. Headteacher Euan Ferguson says he’ll be delighted to present the flowers today - the end of a week’s Ofsted inspection. “We’ve got lots of unsung heroes here.”
