Frying tonight

The civil servant with the most exotic name in the Scottish Executive Education Department found herself in familiar but less exotic surroundings last week.

Gaby Pericini, from the new education developments division, is currently taking her one-woman roadshow along the highways and byways promoting the forthcoming national education debate.

Invited to address a Learning Business Partnership mentoring conference in sunny Renfrew-sur-Clyde, Pericini quickly disabused her audience of any over-glamorous notions inspired by her name. She is a Paisley buddie and her family run a number of chip shops.

A learning experience if ever there was one.
