Fujitsu has upgraded its ScanSnap document scanner (TES Online May 14), a must for anyone who needs to scan lots of documents into Adobe Acrobat format for network or internet use (if you don’t you can get far cheaper scanners). The software with the new fi-5110EOX (pound;370) is simple to install and the new hardware follows the dominant trend, ie smaller and faster - a cracking 15 pages per minute (both sides).

What’s really impressive, but Fujitsu doesn’t sell very hard, is its ability to scan documents and tables into Word or Excel. Have you ever wished you could type straight on to a form you were filling in? Or wished you didn’t have to pick up multiple copies of forms because you’ve messed up filling them in so many times. Your wishes are answered by the excellent Abbyy FineReader software bundled with the ScanSnap.
