Primary teachers can now use web-based software to assess the needs of children more accurately as they begin formal schooling. This series of computer games also helps identify difficulties at an early stage. More than a third of the statements required for the foundation stage profile are automatically generated by Smart Cat Games and relieve teachers of time-consuming assessment. They are fun and simple for children to use, with little teacher-intervention, and require no prior computer skills. The 14 Smart Cat Games assess skills that underpin reading, spelling, mental arithmetic, social functioning, language use, motor control and memory, as well as hearing and colour vision. The software compares individual results against class and national averages.
