Fun with sums

A new calculator for key stage 1 pupils offers "fun" maths exercises and can improve creativity and memory, it is claimed.

The calculator, created by Sharps Electronics, is equipped with a unique function that provides a programme of 25, 50 or 100 questions, which the pupil can select according to ability or preference.

Students can practise their times tables up to 12x12, and a random calculation mode tests a pupil's ability to think on the spot. If a calculation proves too difficult, the "correct answer" function allows the child to view the solution without affecting their overall score.

For monitoring progress and results, the calculator displays the success rate as a percentage on the screen.
