The Music Sound Foundation (MSF), an independent charity dedicated to the improvement of music education and the biggest sponsor of specialist performing arts schools, has added Drumtech, the London-based percussion school, to its bursary scheme. The foundation, called “a charitable angel” by conductor Sir Simon Rattle, granted annual bursaries of pound;5,000 each to five colleges including the Birmingham Conservatoire and the Institute of Popular Music, Liverpool University, in 1999. MSF is a legacy of EMI Records’ 1997 centenary celebrations and since its launch in 1998 it has made awards in excess of pound;1.5m. Donations also go to schools, music teachers and to help young musicians buy instruments.
