Funding review

The Scottish Further Education Funding Council has acknowledged "substantial issues of concern" raised by colleges in response to the grant allocations for the next academic year.

These centred on the insistence of a 1 per cent "efficiency gain" in the core grant, and complaints about separate pockets of money with their own specific conditions of grant which the Lifelong Learning Minister has already pledged to eliminate (TESS last week).

The funding council is to discuss the position at its next meeting on July 5.
