Diane Hofkins advocates (TES, Primary Update, May 9) “good, accurate science teaching in primary schools” since “misconceptions need to be addressed early because once entrenched they are hard to change”.

Unfortunately she incorrectly asserts that “heat rises”. This is just such a misconception that handicaps pupils in secondary schools.
